Graphics Designer

Reporting to the Director of Marketing, you bring creativity and inspiration to your design concepts, and convey our mission and brand promise, creating compelling materials that resonate with target audiences, and are appropriate for each communication channel. You work as a member of the team to support and grow our brand, assuring a cohesive and evolving visual identity throughout all campaigns and projects. Your primary focus is on brand awareness, adoptions, development and medical services, but also contribute to campaigns with departments across the organization. You ensure all materials are in alignment with our brand guidelines and provide guidance to departments as needed. And as manager of our digital asset management system, youll collaborate with departments to define ongoing photography and video needs. You will identify and create photos, videos, illustrations, infographics and motion graphics that emphasize the human-animal bond, relationships between animals, and animal emotions and behavior in support of our mission and a range of campaigns.

Apply understanding of the 'bigger picture' in a creative way, keeping in mind the mission and strategic goals of the department and organization.
Implement HSSVs visual guidelines to maintain integrity of our branding.
A strong capability to select multimedia assets (e.g., imagery, video, illustrations) that accurately reflect and advance our mission and brand, and demonstrate awareness of the culture of the shelter/rescue culture and the diversity of our constituents, especially the relationship between people and animals, between animals, and animal emotions and behavior.
Develop concepts and final materials for campaigns and projects, including, but not limited to, social media and website assets, infographics, animated graphics, email, print collateral (brochures, flyers, posters, postcards, invitations, etc.), digital and print advertising, t-shirts, hats, signage, banners, etc.
Create branded resources (e.g., letterhead templates) for use by staff and train them on their usage.
Manage both the digital asset management (DAM) system and shared project deliverables shared files, including teaching staff how to use the DAM system, identifying needs, adding assets and managing DAM system volunteers.
Research, evaluate and work with external vendors to ensure the quality and intention for print materials, and digital as needed, while staying on budget and on time.
Provide departments with up-to-date production costs for budgeting and tracking expenditures on projects.
Stay abreast of the latest design trends and technology and experiment with how to integrate them into the organization's brand in partnership with team members.
Strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities are essential, including use of project management tools.
Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications
Track record of creating strong, creative, lively and compelling work that is reflective of an organizations brand, audiences, subject matter and contributes to organizational goals.
Must be highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator).
Experience creating graphics for print and digital media (see list above).
Ability to work with, direct and prepare files for outside vendors (e.g., designers; printers; photographers) and prepare files for internal department use.
Project management experience: discuss and gather requirements; develop timelines; keep on track to meet deadlines; track work in project management tools (we use Asana).
Experience creating motion graphics, illustrations, infographics, videos and photography.
Comfort working both independently and collaboratively within a small, close-knit team, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment'paying keen attention to detail and balancing competing, often tight, deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal communications skills, including active listening, open to critique of work and effective collaboration skills.
Can be in contact with animals for purposes of creating marketing assets (e.g., Facebook Live, capture assets, work with photographer/videographer).
Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for larger adoption or other organization-wide events.

Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Power Point and Excel is helpful.
Experience capturing the human-animal bond and animals expression and body language in motion graphics, photos, illustrations and/or videos, will be given added consideration.
Experience coordinating field photography and videography sessions a plus.
Familiarity with designing for WordPress websites helpful.
An understanding of basic HTML and CSS helpful.
Nonprofit/shelter/rescue experience'as a volunteer or employee a plus.

Required Experience & Education
Three to five years relevant professional experience.
A bachelors degree in a relevant field.
